This website has been developed out of concern for the needless residential fire-related deaths that occur daily in the United States and around the world. The purposes of this site are to:
- Highlight the nature of the problem - the extent of fire-related deaths in both single- and multi-family (apartments, for example) dwellings as best as can be gathered from available statistics available on professional and governmental fire-prevention sites around the internet.
- Highlight possible means of relatively quickly and easily reducing those deaths, such as 1) the private and governmental distribution and use of smoke- and fire-detection devices and 2) training families and individuals in fire-reduction and -escape practices.
What is not normally included in the scope of this website:
There are other, longer term steps that can be taken by governmental bodies and community groups that will be beyond the scope of this website except for occasional mention. These might include public education techniques to enhance personal safety from fires, fire-control systems and equipment used by local fire departments, and building construction techniques which minimize the spread of fires between rooms and buildings.
